Nintendo adds two Knockout Tour routes in Mario Kart World Update 1.7.0

Mario Kart World update 1.7.0 adds two new Knockout Tour routes, and Nintendo has made them available now on Switch 2. Tom Phillips reported the change after Nintendo pushed the surprise update, which also gives players a new way to use collected stickers in Photo Mode.

Drill Rally and Boomerang Rally

Drill Rally connects Wario Shipyard to Bowser’s Castle, while Boomerang Rally runs from Salty Salty Speedway to Whistlestop Summit. Nintendo says these become selectable once you clear at least one Knockout Tour rally, so the update does not open the mode to everyone at once; it extends the ladder for players who have already finished enough of the mode to unlock the routes.

The same update also adds the ability to place stickers collected in the game onto pictures taken in Photo Mode. That is a smaller addition than the new routes, but it gives players a second reason to revisit completed runs and then do something with the screenshots they already take.

1.7.0 is route expansion

The new routes are not new tracks. Nintendo says they are two new groupings of six existing course, which makes the update a content shuffle rather than a wholesale map drop. For players of Mario Kart World, that means the game mode grows without waiting on brand-new standalone courses.

Tom Phillips’ report matters because it points to how Nintendo is pacing Mario Kart World in the months after launch. A launch title that had not yet received all-new tracks is being expanded through mode-specific routing instead, and that keeps Knockout Tour active without changing the wider course list.

Additional Knockout Tour routes

Nintendo says additional Knockout Tour routes are also planned for future updates. The current 1.7.0 release is the first concrete step, but the practical takeaway for Players of Mario Kart World is straightforward: clear at least one Knockout Tour rally if you want access to the new pair now, then expect more route additions later.
