Newcastle United are leading the race for Toure Hoffenheim winger Bazoumana Traore, and the move is gathering pace as the club looks to add a new winger. Traore is under contract at Hoffenheim for another three years, which leaves Hoffenheim in position to push the price upward.
Bazoumana Traore’s rise
Traore’s stock has climbed quickly after a breakthrough 2025/26 campaign. Last season he posted 14 direct goal involvements in the Bundesliga, including nine assists, and those nine assists were the most by any player aged 20 or under in the league.
He also arrives with a recent international setback behind him. The Ivorian was knocked out of the World Cup when Ivory Coast lost 2-1 to Norway, a reminder that his club form has been the sharper part of his season so far.
Hoffenheim’s £40 million line
Hoffenheim are expected to demand about £40 million for the winger, and Borussia Dortmund have also placed him on their radar. That leaves Newcastle United trying to win a race against a club that can offer Champions League football while also dealing with a price that reflects both Traore’s age profile and his output in the Bundesliga.
Newcastle’s timing is not accidental. The club is expected to accelerate its search for a new winger in the coming days, and the pursuit comes as Eddie Howe’s side also weighs up midfield reinforcement, with Archie Gray high on the shortlist. Newcastle have £92.5m from the sale of Sandro Tonali to Tottenham Hotspur, while Tottenham are currently unwilling to sell Gray.
For Newcastle, Traore is the cleaner attacking fix in a market that is moving fast. If Hoffenheim hold firm near £40 million, the club will have to decide whether the winger’s production and contract length justify a bid strong enough to keep Borussia Dortmund out of the picture.
