Daniel Robert Eggleston Arrested in Childcare Sex Abuse Case

Daniel Robert Eggleston, 61, was arrested Wednesday after a Multnomah County grand jury indicted him in a years-long childcare sex abuse investigation tied to Mannahouse Church. The arrest followed a warrant issued after the June 26 indictment, and he was booked into jail after US Marshals in Gresham took him into custody.

The Portland Police Bureau said the investigation began in July 2021 after sexual assault allegations were received against Eggleston, of Boring. Detectives said a woman reported that he sexually abused her numerous times between the ages of three and 12, and that account helped drive the case forward.

Eggleston faces 10 counts, including first-degree sex abuse, first degree rape, first-degree sodomy, first-degree unlawful sexual penetration and first-degree mistreatment. Those charges turn the case from a single allegation into a broader criminal filing that now sits in the hands of the court process after the grand jury action.

During the investigation, detectives identified two more young girls who said they were assaulted by Eggleston. Police said they believe there could be more victims because of his association with a childcare program at Mannahouse Church, formerly City Bible Church, at 9200 Northeast Fremont Street.

That combination — multiple identified complainants and a childcare setting that may have given him access to additional children — is why the case remains open to new reports. The police appeal is direct: anyone who believes they are a victim, or has information about case 21-801981, should contact the Portland Police Bureau.

The arrest gives investigators a suspect in custody, but it does not close the inquiry. The unanswered part now is whether other children or families connected to that childcare program will come forward with information that adds to the case file.
