George Russell Eyes Silverstone Weather Boost With Mid-20s Forecast

Silverstone weather is set to stay dry for the British Grand Prix Sprint weekend, with no rain forecast and temperatures expected to sit in the mid-20s from Friday July 3 to Sunday July 5. That gives every session at the track the same basic condition to work with, from British GP Practice to the British Grand Prix itself.

George Russell arrives after winning in Austria last time out, and he is still chasing a first victory on home soil. Lewis Hamilton is in the same weekend picture as a nine-timer British Grand Prix winner, but he comes in off a disappointing race for Ferrari last Sunday.

Silverstone and the Sprint return

The British Grand Prix Sprint weekend is back at Silverstone for the first time since 2021. The format compresses the key competitive sessions into Friday and Saturday before the British Grand Prix on Sunday July 5 at 3pm, so there is little room for teams to miss the forecast window.

British GP Practice is scheduled for Friday July 3 at 12pm, with the session starting at 12.30pm. British GP Sprint Qualifying follows at 3.35pm, with the session starting at 4.30pm. On Saturday July 4, the British GP Sprint is at 12pm and British GP Qualifying is at 4pm.

George Russell and Lewis Hamilton

Russell’s win in Austria gives him a clean reference point heading into Silverstone, where the weather should stay stable across the three days. Lando Norris also brings recent momentum into the weekend after winning last year’s race at Silverstone.

Hamilton’s record at the British Grand Prix is the sharper contrast. He has won it nine times, but Ferrari needs a better weekend from him after the disappointment last Sunday, and the dry track conditions remove one variable from the equation.

Sky coverage for Sky box customers

Sky customers can watch live on Sky Sports F1 and for free on Sky One if they have a Sky box, from British GP Practice on Friday afternoon through to the British Grand Prix on Sunday July 5 at 3pm. Silverstone has staged Formula 1 racing since 1950, and the circuit runs for 3.661 miles, with The Loop, Hangar Straight and Stowe among the places where the field can be stretched if the pace lifts under dry skies.
