Soufiane Rahimi scored in stoppage time and Morocco beat Canada 3-0 on 4 July 2026 to reach the World Cup quarterfinals. The late strike sealed a second straight place among the final eight, after Canada had already been forced to chase the match.

Bounou stops Canada early

Morocco did not get control immediately. In the 10th minute, Bounou denied Oluwaseyi in a one-on-one chance, and Canada kept pressing with the higher tempo in the opening phase.

That start made Morocco’s finish more decisive, because the game had already tilted away from Canada by the time the goals arrived. Jesse Marsch’s side never converted its early pressure, while Morocco waited for the match to open.

Ounahi breaks it open

Azzedine Ounahi put Morocco ahead in the 58th minute from a combination on a free kick. He added a second in the 82nd minute after a counterattack led by Brahim Diaz, giving Morocco the margin that changed the match from control to closure.

Morocco’s attack had a brief setback before that second goal. In the 22nd minute, Ismaïla Saibari was replaced by Rahimi because of injury, and the substitute still found a way to finish the match on Morocco’s terms.

Rahimi finishes the job

Rahimi came close again before he scored. His header struck the crossbar in the 84th minute, then he settled the result in the 90+8th minute with Morocco’s third goal.

Canada had one more chance to shift the game at 78 minutes, but Bounou turned away Tajon Buchanan’s long-range shot. By then the pattern was clear: Morocco had absorbed the early pressure, Ounahi had supplied the separation, and Rahimi’s stoppage-time finish turned a 2-0 lead into a clean knockout win.

Morocco now moves on to face the winner of France-Paraguay in the quarterfinal. For Canada, the tournament ends with a first half that asked questions and a second half that Morocco answered with three goals.
