Jason Durr has joined EastEnders as Clive Masters, and the role puts Linda Carter at the centre of a new summer storyline. The part is a guest stint, so the show is adding a short-run romance rather than a long-term fixture.
Durr said: "Few shows command their place in the national conversation quite like EastEnders, so I'm delighted to be joining the cast as Clive Masters. Working with the wonderful Kellie Bright has been an absolute joy and pleasure from day one." He added: "All the cast, crew and production staff have been incredibly generous, welcoming and good humoured. I'm excited for audiences to meet Clive and see what's in store."
Linda Carter and Clive Masters
Clive Masters is due to arrive this summer as part of a plot to save the Walford community centre from redevelopment, with Linda Carter leading the charge. In the scenes built around that campaign, Linda and Clive strike up a friendship before she realises there is real chemistry between them. That gives EastEnders a compact romance engine: a civic storyline with a relationship attached, rather than a separate love plot dropped in for decoration.
Jason Durr in Casualty and Heartbeat
Durr already brings a long-run television profile to the part. He played Mike Bradley in Heartbeat from 1997 to 2003, then David Hide in Casualty from 2016 to 2023. For EastEnders, that matters less as nostalgia than as casting logic: the show is leaning on an actor who can carry a guest role with enough familiarity to feel established fast.
The complication is built into the booking. Durr is only signed up for a guest role, so Clive Masters may not stick around long enough to turn this into anything more durable for Linda. That makes the storyline efficient rather than open-ended: the romance can move quickly, land its point, and leave the show free to pivot back to the Walford community centre plot and the other romances already in motion.
Durr has already started filming his scenes, so the first on-screen payoff is now a summer arrival rather than a distant possibility. For viewers, the practical takeaway is simple: Linda Carter is getting a new partner in the story, but the deal attached to Clive Masters suggests EastEnders is treating this as a finite burst of drama, not a permanent reshaping of her life.
