The Seafair 4th of July fireworks show returns this Saturday in Seattle, and FOX 13 Seattle will air fireworks in Seattle live for the first time under its new role as Seafair’s official broadcast partner. About 45,000 people are expected to gather between Gas Works Park and Lake Union Park for the display.

Seafair said FOX 13 Seattle will televise and stream Seafair’s three signature events this summer, extending the coverage beyond the holiday show. For readers who plan to watch from the park, the broadcast is paired with a separate access rule on the ground: one part of the event is free to watch, but not every viewing area is open the same way.

Gas Works Park access rules

Attendees who want to watch from Gas Works Park must secure a free ticket online at seafair.org before entry. Gates open at 3 p.m., and those free tickets are valid until 8 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis. Premium reserved seating is also available for purchase at both parks.

That creates the practical split for people planning the evening: the fireworks itself is described as free to watch, but entry to Gas Works Park depends on an online ticket. Premium seating extends the Gas Works Park entry window until 10 p.m., giving buyers a later arrival option than general admission.

Seafair's summer schedule

Seafair said last week on Good Day Seattle that FOX 13 Seattle is the festival’s new official broadcast partner. The partnership will carry the fireworks show now and Seafair’s three signature events through the rest of the summer.

The schedule continues with the Alaska Airlines Torchlight Parade along the Seattle waterfront on July 25 for the second consecutive year. The Torchlight Run begins at 6 p.m. that night, and the main parade will feature more than 100 units, including marching bands, local sports teams and traditional festival displays.

Lake Washington returns in August

After July 25, Seafair turns to Lake Washington during the first weekend of August, when the Boeing Seafair Air Show and Apollo Mechanical Cup Hydroplane Races return. For anyone planning the fireworks night, the key choice is simple: watch from outside the ticketed entry area, arrive early for general access, or buy reserved seating for a later entry window.

How many free tickets will be available for Gas Works Park, and when they sell out, are the only unanswered pieces that still affect the crowd flow this Saturday.
