Eight people were shot in the Coney Island shooting at about 10:35 p.m. on July 4 near Surf Ave, including four children. All of the victims were taken to local hospitals after shots rang out at 2930 W. 30th St. near a fireworks gathering.

Mackenzie, an area resident, said, "I came home to have fun and now this? This building always has some trouble." She also said, "This building is always partying" and, "It’s nothing new over here honestly."
Police and detectives swarmed the scene outside the Seapark Apartments after the shooting and carried young victims to safety. The victims were a 33-year-old male, a 21-year-old female, a 25-year-old female, a 14-year-old male, a 12-year-old male, a 7-year-old male, a 37-year-old male and a 6-year-old male.
Surf Ave Victims
The 33-year-old male and the 21-year-old female were shot in the chest. The 25-year-old female, the 14-year-old male, the 12-year-old male and the 7-year-old male were shot in the legs or thigh. The 37-year-old male was shot in the shoulder, and the 6-year-old male was shot in the stomach.
Seven of the victims were in stable condition, and the 21-year-old female was in critical condition. A deli worker said the cops found a book bag with a gun under the trees, but the incident remained under investigation.
July 4 Near Surf Ave
The shooting happened not far from the boardwalk where a fireworks display had been set for 9:45 p.m., turning a holiday gathering into a mass-casualty scene within an hour. Residents described the block as a place with ongoing trouble, while the shooting also took place during a family holiday fireworks outing.
