Prince George will start at Eton College in the fall of 2026, and Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton’s discussion of the plan centers on how his school life will be arranged around protection. He will sleep in Manor House and travel with personal protection officers, so the move is already shaped by security as well as study.
Prince William and Princess Catherine researched high schools before settling on Eton College. Jennie Bond said, "I'm not surprised that Eton has been chosen: there are all sorts of valid reasons for George to go there."
Manor House and protection
The Manor House placement gives the school a straightforward way to house the officers who will stay with him overnight. Prince Harry was placed in Manor House for the same reason during his Eton days, and he later wrote in Spare that it was not always easy making friends with security guards following him around.
He wrote, "I needed [friends] who'd treat me normal, which meant ignoring the armed bodyguard sleeping down the hall," That line captures the trade-off built into his uncle’s school years and now into George’s: he will have the usual private-school setting, but never quite the privacy other students can take for granted.
Eton College terms
Eton College also has its own vocabulary, which matters because George will be entering a school with customs that are part of daily life. Its fall semester is the Michaelmas Half, its spring semester is the Lent Half, the morning snack break is called chambers, most students are Oppidians, and pupils in the special dorm for top achievers are Collegers.
For George, that means the practical question is not only when he starts, but how quickly his routine will be defined by school rules, shared housing, and a protection detail that stays close. The one date that is set is fall 2026, and the one arrangement that is fixed is Manor House.
