Sheamus is set to leave WWE when his current contract expires. The move follows a shoulder injury in November of last year and a surgery the following month, a stretch that put his future in sharper focus.
Sheamus and WWE
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reported that WWE approached Sheamus about restructuring his deal while he was sidelined. Sheamus reportedly rejected the offer quickly, leaving his status tied to the existing contract he signed in September 2024.
If that September 2024 deal is the one now running out, it appears to have been a two-year agreement. That timeline is why the expiration has become the key marker, not a vague possibility later on.
Injury and return path
Sheamus suffered the shoulder injury while teaming with John Cena and Rey Mysterio against The Judgment Day. Surgery came the following month, and the injury created the opening for WWE's attempt to change the deal while he was out.
The complication is the business side. WWE would have no reason to impose a 90-day non-compete on him the way it did with The New Day earlier this year, which means a departure at expiration would move on a cleaner timeline than a release would.
AEW and Claudio Castagnoli
Sheamus also has several close friends in AEW, including Claudio Castagnoli. The two were known as The Bar in WWE and won tag team gold there on five different occasions, so a contract expiration would carry more than roster bookkeeping.
For now, the meaningful deadline is the end of the current deal. If Sheamus does leave, WWE loses a former multi-time WWE Champion, and the next step is simply the contract clock running out.
