Heliot Ramos delivered the kind of night that can take a game out of reach quickly, homering twice and driving in five runs as the San Francisco Giants beat the Toronto Blue Jays 10-1 on Monday night.
The Giants did most of their damage against Kevin Gausman, while Landen Roupp backed up the offense with a strong outing of his own. Toronto entered the night on a 29-inning scoreless streak, but the Giants never allowed that to become a turning point.
Ramos set the tone early
Ramos tripled to lead off the first inning and scored on Andrés Giménez's wild throw, giving San Francisco an immediate spark. That was only the start of his night.
He added a three-run homer in the sixth inning and then followed with a two-run homer in the eighth. By the end of it, Ramos had accounted for five of the Giants' 10 runs and collected his 20th home run of the season.
Roupp earns a long-awaited win
Landen Roupp also had a significant night, picking up his first win in more than two months after being winless since April 26. He worked eight innings, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out five.
That kind of length mattered in a game where San Francisco had control from early on. It also meant the Giants could lean on one starter and keep the result simple once Ramos and the lineup opened things up.
Blue Jays briefly end the streak
Kazuma Okamoto's homer ended Toronto's 29-inning scoreless streak, but it was only a brief interruption in a one-sided game. The Blue Jays never managed to build on that moment, and San Francisco kept piling on.
In the end, the Giants' combination of timely hitting and steady pitching made this a comfortable win. For Ramos, it was the sort of performance that stands out even in a season full of traffic at the plate.
