Savannah Guthrie Changes Outfit on Today Show During July 7 Broadcast

Savannah Guthrie switched outfits mid-broadcast on the Today show on Tuesday, July 7. She was the only co-anchor not wearing yellow until a commercial break let her change from blue into a yellow gingham dress.

PopStart memo and a quick switch

During a PopStart segment, Guthrie noticed Jenna Bush Hager, Dylan Dreyer and Sheinelle Jones in yellow while Craig Melvin wore a yellow-and-blue striped tie. Guthrie cut in with, “You guys, did you really have a memo? I’m changing!”

Bush Hager answered, “I texted you, and you did not receive my text.” Then Guthrie returned from the break in the new dress and said, “I did, girls! I wanted to be with my ladies.”

Jenna Bush Hager sets yellow Tuesdays

Dreyer said she was thrilled she found the gown, and Melvin praised Guthrie for changing “that fast!” Bush Hager then suggested that Tuesdays will be yellow, and Guthrie replied, “We’re starting it today!”

The exchange worked because it stayed live and visible: one co-anchor missed the memo, the rest carried the color cue, and Guthrie closed the gap before the segment moved on. That kind of on-air reset is rare on a morning show because it turns wardrobe coordination into part of the broadcast instead of a behind-the-scenes detail.

Nancy Guthrie adds context

The moment lands against a harder backdrop for Guthrie. Her mother, Nancy Guthrie, was last seen on Jan. 30 near Tucson, Arizona, and the Pima County Sheriff's Department and the FBI continue to investigate her disappearance and presumed kidnapping.

Guthrie also posted on her Instagram story on June 7, writing, “Oh my, my soul it cries out, soul, it cries out” and “Bring her home,” alongside a heart emoji. Against that context, the July 7 wardrobe switch reads as a brief, controlled burst of levity on a show that usually runs on timing, cues and sameness.
