Óscar Míngueza publishes farewell to Celta 45 days after final match — Óscar Míngueza

Óscar Míngueza published his farewell to Celta on social media 45 days after playing his last match for the Vigo club, closing a four-season spell that ended with the club’s June 30 announcement that his time in Vigo was over.

In his message, Míngueza said he arrived in Vigo with the excitement of starting a new adventure and quickly felt the responsibility of wearing the Celta shirt. He also described the city and the club as a place that welcomed him and his wife with open arms, and said he tried to give everything for the badge from day one.

The defender’s goodbye carries extra weight because it reflects not just one player’s exit, but the end of a successful period for Celta. Four years ago, the team was fighting to avoid relegation on the final matchday. Over the next four seasons, Míngueza became part of a side that reached Europe two years in a row.

He said he leaves calm and happy to have belonged to what he called a family, and he highlighted how special it was to experience European nights at Balaídos while hearing the Centenary anthem. He added that, after four seasons, he can only give thanks.

Míngueza also made the farewell personal. He said Vigo became more than a city and turned into a home, where his two children, Bruna and Luca, were born. He added that a part of his family will always belong to that land.

A message of thanks to the people around him

His farewell was not limited to the fans. Míngueza thanked his teammates, coaches, technical staff, physiotherapists, kit men and everyone else who works at the club to make daily life easier. He reserved special words for the celtismo, recalling the same supporters who backed the team when it was battling relegation in the last game four years ago and later celebrated the consecutive European qualifications.

One of the first replies came from Borja Iglesias, who told him he would be missed and wished him the best. Míngueza closed his note by saying it has been an honor to defend those colors, and he also indicated that his next destination would be announced in the next hours.

His farewell now serves as the final public step in a departure that had already been confirmed by the club, and it puts the focus on what comes next for a player whose exit closes an important chapter in Vigo.
