AEMET kept a heat warning active for the province of León on Thursday, July 9, while León city was forecast to stay clear and reach 36 degrees. Residents of the province faced a yellow thunderstorm warning, but the city itself was outside the storm-hit area.
The forecast called for 17 degrees as the low in León city, with light south winds through the day. AEMET’s outlook also showed that the warning would not reach all localities in the province, so conditions could differ sharply from one place to another.
León city on Thursday
For León city, the day was set to begin under clear skies and end hot. The maximum of 36 degrees placed the city well above a comfortable daytime range, while the absence of storm cloud cover meant the yellow warning was aimed elsewhere in the province.
That split forecast is the key practical point for anyone in León today: the province carried storm risk, but the city forecast did not. For residents planning travel, outdoor work, or time outside, the relevant detail is not the provincial label alone, but whether their locality falls inside the warning area.
Friday in León and Ponferrada
The weather pattern was expected to change on Friday. León was forecast to stay clear from dawn until midday, then see thunderstorms starting at 12:00, with about 35 degrees at the top and 17 degrees at the bottom.
Ponferrada followed a different track. It was expected to start the day without clouds and then turn partly cloudy from midday, with 16 degrees minimum and 35 degrees maximum. In the same forecast, León city stayed the hotter point while the storm timing shifted into the afternoon.
Weekend temperature shift
The outlook for León pointed to a hot weekend before a slight easing on Sunday. Saturday was expected to begin with 37 degrees maximum and 19 degrees minimum, while Sunday was forecast to bring a lower maximum of 32 degrees.
For residents of León, the useful takeaway is simple: Thursday’s warning covered storms in parts of the province, but the city forecast centered on heat, not rain. The next shift in conditions was set for Friday at 12:00, when thunderstorms were due to begin after a clear morning.
