The Louisiana Lottery now has a month-by-month pattern to look at after a BonusJet study found the state has logged 10 Powerball wins since 2003. February, May and September lead Louisiana’s record, with two wins in each month.
Mike Hunter, the casino and bonus ranking expert at BonusJet, said the data shows timing can play a role across the United States. He added, "This data shows that timing really can play a role in how lottery jackpots are won across the U.S. and Americans should think twice before buying a ticket throughout months such as July,"

The study examined every Powerball jackpot winner since 2003, giving Louisiana players a longer-term record instead of a single drawing result. That history puts the state’s 10 wins in a wider national set that also includes Pennsylvania, California, Florida, New York, Indiana, Missouri, New Jersey and Wisconsin.
Louisiana’s three strongest months are tied at two wins apiece. For players tracking the state’s record, that means February, May and September have produced the same result so far, even though the overall sample remains small compared with the national total.

Hunter also pointed to the uneven distribution of Powerball jackpot wins across the country. He said, "What’s interesting is that some states have seen just one Powerball win since 2003, whereas Pennsylvania has seen 20 wins alone, showing the disparity of luck throughout the country."
That comparison matters because Pennsylvania leads the nation with 20 Powerball jackpot winners since 2003, while California and Florida each have 17, New York has 13, Indiana, Missouri and New Jersey each have 12, and Wisconsin has nine. March and June each produced 27 jackpot wins nationally, while July had 14, which is why Hunter singled out that month as one buyers should think twice about.
Pennsylvania and the national totals
The state-by-state breakdown shows how narrow the spreads can be. Texas has seen three Powerball wins overall, all in February, May and September, while Pennsylvania’s luckiest month is December with four of its 20 wins. California’s top month is October with three wins, Florida’s is May with three, New York’s is December with three, New Jersey has four wins in March, Missouri’s luckiest month is November, Indiana has two wins each in February, March, April, October and November, and Wisconsin has three of its nine wins in March.
What causes Louisiana’s luckiest months to be February, May and September is not explained in the report, but the practical takeaway is simple: the state’s record is part of a much wider pattern that varies sharply by month and by state. For Louisiana Lottery players, the study offers a historical snapshot rather than a prediction, and the timing of any future Powerball ticket will still be a wager, not a formula.
