The Utah Jazz planned to rest Cody Williams, Darryn Peterson and Ace Bailey in Tuesday’s final Salt Lake City Summer League game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The decision comes as the Jazz work through a demanding schedule in Salt Lake City, where they played three games in four days. With that stretch already putting the roster in a short-term hold pattern, the team opted to give the three players the night off before shifting its focus to the next stop on the summer league calendar.
The timing also reflects the quick turnaround ahead of Thursday night’s opener in Las Vegas, where the Jazz aimed to have all three players available against AJ Dybantsa and the Washington Wizards. For Utah, the goal is simple: manage the workload now and keep the group ready for the next game.
That approach has already been part of the week. Ace Bailey left Saturday’s game against the Atlanta Hawks early with back spasms and then was sidelined Monday against the Memphis Grizzlies. Resting him again Tuesday fits the broader plan of being cautious with a condensed schedule.
For Williams, the move means he will not suit up in the final Salt Lake City Summer League game, but it also gives the Jazz another chance to keep their key summer pieces fresh for Las Vegas. In a short tournament setting, that can matter as much as any single box score.
