Karolina Muchova is through to her first Wimbledon final after a dramatic 6-2, 1-6, 7-6 (12-10) victory over Coco Gauff on Thursday at Centre Court. The 10th seed saved a match point in a tense third-set tiebreak before closing out the win and putting herself one match from a first title at the tournament.
The result gives the Wimbledon 2026 schedule a major new storyline: an all-Czech Grand Slam final in the women’s game. Muchova will face Linda Noskova after Noskova beat Marta Kostyuk 6-4, 6-4 earlier on Thursday to reach her first major final as well.
Muchova survives a rollercoaster semifinal
The match swung sharply from set to set. Muchova took the opening set 6-2, Gauff answered with a 6-1 second set, and the decider turned into a long, tense battle played in sweltering conditions on Centre Court. Muchova was pushed to the edge, but she found a way through the ninth break point and then held her nerve in the tiebreak.
Afterward, Muchova called it “very nerve-wracking” and said the match was “such a big fight,” adding that it felt like a rollercoaster because she faced match point and then had match point down. That was the kind of pressure she had been building toward for a while.
A breakthrough after near misses
This was Muchova’s fifth major semifinal and only her second Grand Slam final. She also reached the 2023 French Open final, where she lost to Iga Swiatek in three sets. On Thursday, though, she finally got over the line in a big moment that had gone against her before.
For Gauff, the loss ends a strong run at Wimbledon, but the bigger picture now belongs to Muchova and Noskova. The tournament will now produce its first all-Czech Grand Slam final in the women’s game, a rare matchup that gives the Wimbledon 2026 schedule an unexpected and historic finish.
