IMPD is investigating a fatal shooting in a hotel parking lot in downtown Indianapolis, after officers were called to the 300 block of North Senate Avenue just before 5 a.m. Saturday. A man was shot and died at the scene.
The call came in early Saturday morning, when police responded to a report of a person shot in the parking lot. Officers found the man there and pronounced him dead without moving him from the scene, leaving the lot as the focus of the investigation.
Police believe the suspect and the victim knew each other, which points away from a random encounter and toward a more personal conflict. That is the only theory police have put forward so far; no other information had been released.
For people who were nearby or may have seen the shooting, the practical next step is simple: contact IMPD at 317-327-3475 or Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS. The location, timing, and the fact that the man died where he was found make witness accounts the main way investigators are likely to fill in the gaps.
