The 27-year-old arrived on loan in May and has now committed his future to Hull FC with immediate effect. His contract keeps him at the MKM Stadium until at least the end of the 2028 campaign.

Promising loan spell turned into a permanent move

O’Neill made five appearances during his loan spell and scored two tries, including a brace against Huddersfield Giants in June. That short spell was enough for Hull FC to move quickly and secure him on a permanent basis.

Hull FC chief executive Richie Myler said the club were delighted to keep O’Neill after what he described as a promising loan spell over the last couple of months. Myler also highlighted O’Neill’s work rate and the impact he made in the pack in a short time, adding that he is looking forward to seeing him continue to develop in Hull’s environment.

The move gives Hull FC another option in the back row, while also offering cover at centre. That versatility will be useful as the club looks to build around players who can handle more than one role.

For Leeds Rhinos, the permanent transfer closes the latest chapter in O’Neill’s career after his time on loan at Hull. Leeds have also been in the headlines recently after Connie Boyd scored twice as they beat St Helens 28-12, but O’Neill’s move now gives Hull FC a clearer answer in their own squad planning.
