CCH Pounder said she has no interest in joining a possible ER reunion on The Pitt, closing down one of the easier crossover ideas around Noah Wyle. Her comments narrow expectations for whether another former ER cast member will turn up on the HBO Max medical drama.
Noah Wyle in The Pitt
“When you've had a steak, don't go looking for hamburgers,” Pounder said during an interview tied to 2026's Italian Global Series. She also said The Pitt is “in the same arena” as ER and called it “wonderful” to see Noah Wyle go from being “the novice” in ER to “The Man” in the new series. Her blunt line does more work than a generic no ever could: she is not leaving the door open.
Angela Hicks and Dr. John Carter
Pounder played Dr. Angela Hicks in ER through the first four seasons, appearing in 24 episodes and receiving her second Emmy nomination. In the show, Dr. Angela Hicks often served as a mentor figure for Noah Wyle’s Dr. John Carter and Eriq La Salle’s Dr. Peter Benton, which makes her dismissal of a reunion appearance more pointed than a casual comment from a distant alumni.
“That's about 1 man, really, and how things happen surrounding him,” Pounder said of The Pitt, a direct description of a series that has already rebuilt part of ER’s cast around Noah Wyle. That setup has helped The Pitt bring back several familiar faces through 30 episodes aired thus far, and the project has already turned two of those returns into Emmy victories for Katherine LaNasa and Shawn Hatosy.
ER and The Pitt
Katherine LaNasa moved from a flirtatious mother of a young patient in ER to Dana in The Pitt, while Shawn Hatosy shifted from a patient living with Dissociative Identity Disorder in ER to Dr. Jack Abbot in The Pitt. Other actors who have appeared in both ER and The Pitt include Michael Hyatt, Tracy Vilar, Ernest Harden Jr., Shu Lan Tuan, Drew Powell, Jenny O'Hara, Rusty Schwimmer, Jeff Kober, and Mary McCormack, so Pounder’s refusal trims one more possible link in a cast list that already runs deep.
The clean read for fans of ER and The Pitt is simple: Pounder is out, and the show’s reunion lane is now narrower than it was before her interview. Whether CCH Pounder was ever formally asked to appear on The Pitt is still the open question that hangs over the rest of the crossover talk.
