Pokémon Go Fest: Global 2026 puts Mega Mewtwo X and Y in Pokémon GO in players’ hands through a free Genetic Mastery Timed Research available July 11 and July 12. After one step, players choose between Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y, and that choice determines which Mega Energy they receive.
The reward path is not just a form pick. The chosen Mewtwo comes with the first level of Mega Evolution unlocked for that form, and the choice step grants 300 Mewtwo X/Y Mega Energy, a Mewtwo encounter, and 26 Mewtwo Candy. Players who want the initial Mega Evolution outside the research reward need 7,500 Mega Energy.
Genetic Mastery rewards
The free Timed Research opens with 2,026 Stardust, a Bouffalant encounter, and 2,026 XP. The next step gives 26 Gastly Candy, a Gengar encounter, and 6 Gastly Candy XL. The third step adds 3 Rare Candy, a Tropius encounter, and 2,026 Stardust.
After the form choice, the next reward step gives 2,026 Stardust, 6 Mewtwo Go Fest stickers, and 2,026 XP. The final step gives 3 Mewtwo Candy XL, 1 Elite Charged TM, and 26 Mewtwo Candy.
July 11 and July 12 raids
Mega Mewtwo X appears in raids on Saturday, July 11. Mega Mewtwo Y follows on Sunday, July 12. That timing matches the research window, so players can line up their raid target with the form they pick from Genetic Mastery.
The two forms do not play the same role. Mega Mewtwo Y is generally stronger than Mega Mewtwo X, but only by a hair. Mega Mewtwo X is the better fighting-type attacker, although Mega Lucario is stronger than Mega Mewtwo X in that role.
Adventure Effect for Mega Mewtwo
The practical wrinkle is the rumored Adventure Effect for Mega Mewtwo. Datamines pointed to a unique Adventure Effect, but Scopely Explore has not formally announced one. That leaves the choice centered on combat role and Mega Energy, not on any extra bonus tied to the effect.
For players deciding during Free July, the useful question is simple: pick Mega Mewtwo Y for the slight overall edge, or pick Mega Mewtwo X if fighting-type use matters more. Because the Timed Research expires after July 12, the choice has to be made within the two-day window.
