Mollie Gallagher is moving from Coronation Street to Silence of The Lambs, where she will play Clarice Starling in a stage production. The switch turns Nina Lucas’s exit into a new lead role, not a pause in the work.
The production is adapted from the 1991 film Silence of The Lambs and will tour the UK from August. It places Gallagher in one of the story’s central roles, with Johnny Partridge as Hannibal Lecter, Oliver Farnworth as Jack Crawford and Sam Jackson as Buffalo Bill.
Beth Nixon backs Mollie Gallagher
Beth Nixon added public support on Instagram, writing, “OH MY GOD I CANT WAIT! So proud of you!” Fans followed with messages including, “Had my tickets booked for ages! So happy that Mollie is in this” and “you are amazing Mollie!!” That kind of response gives the production an early audience before the first date in the run is even set out.
Gina Gionfriddo adapted the play for the stage and Nikolai Foster is directing it, which keeps the project close to the original source while shifting it into live performance. For Gallagher, the move is a clear change of lane: from Nina Lucas on TV to Clarice Starling on stage, with the soap departure now carrying a career-upside rather than a dead end.
Coronation Street after Nina Lucas
Gallagher joined Coronation Street in 2019 as Nina Lucas, and the character’s storylines included the murder inspired by Sophie Lancaster’s real-life case. Her decision to bow out means Nina’s time on the Cobbles is ending, but the new casting makes the exit look like a handover into a bigger stage assignment rather than a retreat from TV.
The practical question now is the August start point for the UK tour. For readers who want to see Gallagher’s next move in person, that month is the marker to watch, because the production has already tied her name to a role with built-in recognition and a ready-made audience.
