Gregory Stafford says Pgl Hindhead tree fall injured children

A tree fell at PGL Hindhead on Monday at about 13:40 BST, injuring children at the PGL Activity Centre in Marchants Hill in Tilford Road, Hindhead. One patient with a serious leg injury was airlifted to a London hospital.

Six others were taken to Royal Surrey Hospital in Guildford with less serious injuries, while 11 people were assessed and treated at the scene before being discharged. The incident happened at an outdoor activity centre in Surrey, where surrounding woodland formed the setting for the fall.

Gregory Stafford response

Gregory Stafford, the Farnham and Bordon MP, said he was aware of a "serious accident" involving a group of children. He said there had been "a number of injuries" but no reported fatalities.

Stafford added: "My thoughts are with the children involved, their families, and all those affected," and said, "I am grateful for the swift and professional response of our emergency services."

Emergency services at Marchants Hill

Multiple ambulance crews attended the scene, along with paramedics from South Central Ambulance Service and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance. Police and fire services also attended, and Surrey Police and Surrey Fire and Rescue Service were working closely with PGL.

PGL was supporting those affected after the fall. The sequence of care mattered on the ground: one child needed an airlift, six more needed hospital treatment, and 11 people were well enough to be assessed and discharged at the scene.

Marchants Hill injuries

The immediate unanswered issue is what caused the tree to fall at the PGL Activity Centre. For children and families involved, the next practical step is continued care for the injured patients already sent on for treatment, while the rest were discharged after being checked at Marchants Hill.
