Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Leak Shows 5.5-Inch Wider Cover Screen

Leaked renders of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 show a wider, shorter body with a 5.5-inch cover screen in a 16:10 shape. The redesign should make the phone easier to use when closed, especially for people who found earlier Galaxy Fold covers too narrow for normal typing and app layouts.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 renders

Android Headlines published the high-quality images this week, and the proportions point to a folded phone that behaves more like a standard handset in the hand. That is a practical shift for closed-phone use, because the wider cover display gives thumbs more room and reduces the cramped feel that has long defined the Galaxy Fold line.

Tom's Guide said the renders line up with Samsung's teaser imagery, which showed a squatter silhouette in at least three colorways. That gives the leak more weight than the usual blur of case molds and partial photos, because it finally shows the body shape instead of just a cutout.

Ice Universe and the crease

Ice Universe said Samsung may have substantially reduced the inner display crease, while Trusted Reviews pointed to a Naver forum post citing South Korean supply-chain sources that backed the hinge claim. The upside is a cleaner panel when the phone is open, but that same hinge and crease change could make Flex Mode harder to keep stable if Samsung has pushed the mechanism too far toward a flatter fold.

The standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 was previously called the Fold 8 Wide in early leaks, and the reported dimensions help explain why: the body is about 9.7mm folded and 4.5mm unfolded, weighs around 200 grams, and is still said to come in a few grams lighter than the Galaxy Z Fold 7 despite being physically broader. Samsung is also expected to ship Cream, Graphite, Lavender, and a Pistachio color exclusive to Samsung.com.

July 22 in London

Samsung is expected to show both phones at Galaxy Unpacked on July 22 in London, with buyers likely to get them a week or two later. The useful open question is how One UI will treat that 16:10 outer display in daily use, because software fit will decide whether the wider shell feels like a real phone or just a new shape.
