Victoria Anne Cranmer charged after Snapchat video allegation

Victoria Cranmer, 25, was arrested Tuesday and charged after authorities alleged she sexually assaulted a child younger than 13, recorded the abuse and shared at least one video on Snapchat. She was booked into Ocean County Jail and held without bail.

Authorities said the charges include second-degree sexual assault, second-degree manufacturing of child sexual abuse material, third-degree possession of child sexual abuse material and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child. The allegations center on a 14-second video that police said was recorded May 6 inside a bathroom in a Little Egg Harbor home while the child was in Cranmer's care.

Little Egg Harbor investigation

The case began May 20, when the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency referred the allegations to the Little Egg Harbor Police Department and the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office Special Victims Unit. Detectives later obtained search warrants for a cellphone they said Cranmer used and for her Snapchat account.

Investigators said they uncovered additional videos saved in Snapchat's Memories feature. A former roommate had bought the cellphone as a birthday gift, then asked Cranmer to leave the phone behind when she moved out. The roommate said she found the recording while reviewing the phone, saved it and turned the device over to investigators.

Recording and review

Police said they identified Cranmer through several distinctive tattoos visible in the recording, including one on her leg that depicted breasts. They also alleged she was laughing while assaulting the child in the video, a detail that goes beyond the single clip shared on Snapchat and points to multiple recordings stored on the phone and in the app.

The open question now is the status of Cranmer's case as it moves forward from arrest to court. The source does not say whether she has legal representation or entered a plea, leaving the charges, the digital evidence and the custody status as the key facts in view.
