Batman 2 is moving again, with Warner Bros shifting The Batman Part II to Feb. 18, 2028 from Oct. 1, 2027. Matt Reeves shared the change on social media, and the sequel now lands on a 4-day Presidents Day holiday weekend.
The move also keeps Imax screens in play on the new date. Warner Bros had moved The Great Beyond into the film’s old slot, tying the sequel’s new timing to J.J. Abrams’ first original movie in over a decade.
Matt Reeves and Batman 2
Reeves’ sequel had already seen its start of production delayed five months, so the new release date gives the project more room in post-production. That is the practical takeaway for viewers tracking the film: the schedule has now been pushed far enough back to absorb the delay without losing the premium-format window.
Robert Pattinson, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell are returning, which keeps the core of the franchise intact even as the calendar changes. Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Jayme Lawson, Charles Dance, Gil Perez-Abraham, and Sebastian Koch are also in the cast, giving Warner Bros a larger ensemble to sell once the campaign ramps up.
The Great Beyond slot
The Great Beyond moved from Nov. 13 to Oct. 1, 2027 after Warner Bros decided it wanted 70MM Imax prints for the film. The title, which stars Glen Powell and Jenna Ortega, also includes Emma Mackey, Sophie Okonedo, Merritt Wever, and Samuel L. Jackson, and it was teased at April’s CinemaCon.
The date shuffle leaves Presidents Day weekend 2028 crowded before Batman 2 arrives, with an untitled Disney movie and Sony’s original action sci-fi feature Grandgear already occupying that frame. For Warner Bros, the cleaner read is simple: the studio is protecting Imax capacity and giving Reeves more time, even if the sequel now reaches theaters later than planned.
Imax and Presidents Day
Feb. 18, 2028 is the more valuable slot for a studio trying to maximize premium screens and holiday traffic. The tradeoff is obvious: Batman 2 waits longer, but the new date gives the film a better runway than a crowded early October opening.
