Rebecca Yarros used Instagram on Wednesday, July 15 to give Threshing Day Rebecca Yarros a firm place on the calendar: Sept. 29, 2026. The new Empyrean book also has a title, a premise built around Threshing Day, and a release plan that pushes the franchise forward without making it the next chapter in Violet and Xaden’s run.
Thirteen stories on Threshing Day
The book will collect 13 stories about some of the biggest and most impactful characters in the Empyrean universe, with dragons in the mix. That structure makes Threshing Day more of a companion release than a straight continuation, which is why it can carry the series name while standing apart from the main line of novels.
Rebecca Yarros also teased a later website release for Xaden’s story from the book. For readers, that means there is a second piece of content still being held back even after the print date is fixed, a modest but useful reason to track her site rather than treating the September 2026 publication as the last word.
Not Book 4 of Empyrean
Threshing Day is the fourth book that will be published, but it is not Book 4 of The Empyrean series. That distinction matters because the numbering on the shelf does not match the story order readers may be expecting after Onyx Storm, and this release is not the next installment of Violet and Xaden’s journey.
That split gives the franchise room to widen its frame without forcing the main arc to rush. Fourth Wing readers who want more of the world get a new entry; readers waiting for the direct continuation of Violet and Xaden still have to separate publication order from series progression.
Joe Requeza’s illustrations
The deluxe edition illustrations were done by Joe Requeza, whose fantasy credits include The Light of Mezzara by Tim McKay and The Lord of the East by Derek Beebe. That puts a recognizable visual hand on the release and gives the premium edition a clearer sales pitch than a standard hardcover would.
Threshing Day can already be pre-ordered from Amazon and Target, so the announcement is not just a title reveal. It has moved into the retail phase, with a fixed release date, a defined format, and a separate online story beat still waiting on Yarros’s website.
