Jojo Siwa Says She and Chris Hughes Avoid Troll Talk

JoJo Siwa says she and Chris Hughes do not speak about being trolled, choosing instead to keep their relationship conversations positive, fun and loving. She said that approach has helped them protect themselves from negative noise while still staying open when one of them needs support.

Siwa, 23, said she recently read an article in which Hughes praised how she handles criticism. She told Us Weekly that his view gave her a useful read on how he sees her, especially because the pair do not usually discuss the subject directly.

One Honest Check-In

“He’s always very supportive, and I actually just read that same article,” Siwa said. “I saw the comments online, but then I saw him speak to someone over in the UK and he really praised how I handle [criticism].” She added that there has only been one time when she told him, “I’m not good right now,” and “he’s there for me.”

That kind of boundary is doing real work in a relationship that is already split between the UK and the US. Siwa said they choose not to talk through the criticism at length because they want their conversations to stay positive, and that makes the occasional check-in sharper and more meaningful when it comes.

Chris Hughes on Distance

Hughes, 33, said the long-distance setup is “not as tricky as people think.” He said that before the last couple of months, they saw each other every month, either when Siwa went to the UK or when he went to the US, and he described those visits as a “great time.”

“I think when you can jump on a flight and get yourself out there, if you’ve got the ability to do that and you’ve got the time, then it’s a lovely thing, really,” Hughes said. He also said he enjoys “spending time with her and her family and the dogs,” which gives the relationship a routine that is less public than the attention around it.

Nation's Dumbest Next

Siwa is also set to take part in Fox's new gameshow Nation's Dumbest, a next step that keeps her in the TV pipeline while this relationship story continues to draw attention. She also said she and Hughes bring different strengths to the show: “I think we actually have a different world of smarts. I think Chris is really knowledgeable. Obviously, he's a bit older than me, and so he has more life knowledge. But I also think he's really knowledgeable in the world of sports, in the world of horses.”

For readers following this couple, the practical read is simple: the relationship appears to run on limited but deliberate honesty, not constant post-mortems on every criticism. The open question is still the same one Siwa sidestepped by design — what specific trolling they are choosing not to name.
