Mark Dunning was left in complete shock when Christian Williams arrived at his front door to reveal that he had won a £77,000 Audi R8 V10 through BOTB.
The 61-year-old from Winsford had been entered automatically as a BOTB Pass member, and the surprise made the moment even bigger because he had only told his wife last week that he could do with a little windfall.
A surprise at the front door
Dunning said he thought he was going out for lunch when the reveal happened. Instead, he found out that years of playing BOTB had finally paid off with his first win.
He described the result as a complete and utter shock and said the prize meant everything to him. Dunning also spoke openly about the health issues he has faced in recent years, saying every day has been a bit of a struggle.
Keep the car or take the cash?
The Audi R8 V10, with its 533bhp, certainly made an impression on him. Dunning said it looks lovely and sounds fantastic, but he is still weighing up whether to keep the car or choose the tax-free cash alternative instead.
That cash option is appealing for practical reasons. Dunning said it would take the pressure off, help him support the kids, top up his pension and contribute toward a special holiday the family has coming up to Zanzibar.
Christian Williams said Dunning's reaction was incredibly moving, adding that the timing was especially meaningful because of what he had shared with his wife just last week. For Dunning, the win is more than just a luxury prize — it is a rare moment of good fortune after a difficult period.
