Forest Green Rovers will take on Merthyr Town at Penydarren Park on Saturday in their third pre-season friendly of the summer.
The match comes as Forest Green continue their build-up to the 2026/27 Enterprise National League season, while Merthyr use another home fixture to measure themselves against National League North opposition.
For Merthyr, the game is another chance to test the standards that helped them make a strong step forward in 2025. They won the Southern League Premier South title to earn promotion, then finished 8th in National League North with 70 points.
That progress has continued off the pitch as well. Manager Paul Michael, who joined Merthyr Town from Yate Town in April 2022, signed a new two-year contract in May that keeps him at Penydarren Park until summer 2028.
Merthyr's squad has also been reshaped, with seven signings added since the summer window opened. Among the notable arrivals is Will Spiers, who earned his first professional deal at Cardiff City in July 2024 before signing permanently for Merthyr Town after his contract expired in summer 2025.
The move gives Merthyr another useful benchmark before the season gets underway. Forest Green, meanwhile, will be looking to keep building rhythm and sharpen their squad during a summer schedule that is already moving into its third outing.
