Lifeguards took the suspect into custody in the water. SkyFOX aerial images showed the suspect in the ocean, nude from the waist down, as the arrest unfolded.

West LA Division response

West LA Division officers spotted the suspect shortly after the call and tried to make contact. The suspect ran, led officers on a foot pursuit, and then entered the ocean at Will Rogers State Beach.

Stu Mundel reported the scene from SkyFOX as the pursuit shifted from the beach to the water. The unusual setting put lifeguards at the center of the arrest, not just officers on shore.

The suspect appeared agitated and fought lifeguards while being taken into custody. The suspect’s name has not been publicly released, and the underlying felony warrant was not disclosed.

For anyone tracking the case, the immediate question is the warrant itself. The arrest is already over, but the reason police were looking for this person remains the part that was not made public.
