Manchester United and Newcastle have both held talks with Hugo Larsson's representatives as they weigh a possible move for the Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder this summer.
The 22-year-old Sweden international has been one of the standout midfielders in Germany since joining Eintracht Frankfurt from Malmo in 2023 for €9 million. He is now under contract through 2029, which leaves Frankfurt in a strong negotiating position even if interest continues to build.
According to the latest reporting, Frankfurt want around €50 million for Larsson, a figure that reflects both his age and the club's leverage. The asking price also helps explain why any deal is still at an early stage, even with direct contact already made.
Why the interest is growing
Newcastle's situation is tied in part to the possibility of Bruno Guimaraes leaving for Arsenal, which would naturally push the club to assess midfield options. Larsson fits that need as a younger player with top-level upside and room to develop further in the Premier League.
Manchester United, meanwhile, are also trying to add a third midfielder after signing Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans this summer. That gives them a clearer picture of the market and suggests Larsson is being considered as part of a broader midfield rebuild rather than as a one-off target.
Tom Weber has described Larsson as a player who is planning to take the next step in his career this summer, but he also noted that Frankfurt may struggle to get the fee they want. Weber said Larsson has not fully justified his price tag this season, though he also pointed to the difficult circumstances around the club.
Frankfurt changed direction in January when Dino Toppmoller was sacked and replaced by Albert Riera, and that kind of midseason shift rarely makes things easier for a young midfielder. Weber also said Larsson is at his best in a box-to-box role when he has a more defensive-minded partner next to or behind him, adding that Ellyes Skhiri previously helped him play with more freedom. Skhiri, now 31, had a difficult season, which also affected Larsson's setup.
For now, the key question is whether the talks turn into a formal bid. Based on the current reporting, no official offer has been made yet. But with two Premier League clubs already speaking to his camp and Frankfurt setting a high price, this looks like one of the more notable midfield stories to watch as the summer progresses.
