Denise Welch reportedly turned down I'm a Celebrity after meeting the show team, ending years of pursuit by ITV bosses. She is said to have decided the jungle was not for her after the all-stars fallout gave her pause.
Denise Welch was said to have met the team to talk things through before walking away. The decision came after years of attempts to sign her, with a source saying, "Denise has been top of I'm A Celeb's campmate hit list for years".
Adam Thomas and Jimmy Bullard
The concern was tied to the second all-star series, which brought back former contestants and ended in a row between Adam Thomas and Jimmy Bullard. During the final, Bullard accused Thomas of being "abusive, aggressive and intimidating", and also claimed ITV "didn't show" Thomas's alleged c-bombs in the broadcast.
That dispute did not stay contained. Ant and Dec began defending Adam Thomas, David Haye called him a "victim", and Sinitta and Gemma Collins stormed off set before Adam Thomas was eventually crowned King of the Jungle.
ITV and the all-stars series
Welch reportedly raised those concerns with producers and said, "She feared something similar could happen this time and didn't think it was worth the risk." She was also described as really busy focusing on her acting, which fits a straightforward scheduling reality: if the risk is reputational and the calendar is tight, the safer commercial answer is no.
For ITV, the trade-off is plain. The all-stars series may have delivered attention, but it can also make the casting pool thinner if names with real pull decide the format carries too much baggage. Welch's refusal leaves the show still chasing a target it had wanted for years, and the next move is whether bosses keep pushing her or pivot to another name entirely.
