Tom Homan told HuffPost he does not want to get ahead of the investigations into the shootings in Houston and Maine and the fatal Florida incident. On Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan, he said the cases should be allowed to play out before anyone assigns fault.
Homan said, "we'll wait and see what the investigations- how they play out, right?" and added, "I don't want to get ahead of investigations on who's at fault, what exactly happened." Brennan said two immigrants were shot in the span of a week, with one death in Maine coming days after another in Houston.

The interview aired on July 19, 2026, and Brennan pressed Homan on the Houston case, saying the vehicle involved was unmarked and that the people killed were not the intended targets. She also said the Florida case involved a man fleeing agents who was struck and killed by a tractor trailer.
Homan said, "I think that- I actually think that emboldens some people to say, \"I'm not going to comply with ICE.\"" He argued that people should always comply with law enforcement and said rhetoric in sanctuary cities and at protests can encourage noncompliance.
Markwayne Mullin and vehicle stops
Homan also said Markwayne Mullin paused enforcement on vehicle stops because of concerns about agent safety and operations. He said he has done this since 1984 and that investigations can include cell phone video, city cameras, witness statements, and affidavits from officers and witnesses.
When Brennan asked whether the people killed in Houston and Maine were not the intended targets, Homan answered, "One of them, I believe, we did" and said law enforcement deals with misidentity every day across the country. The open question from the interview is what the investigations will determine about who was at fault in Houston and Maine, and the final findings were not addressed on air.
