Finn Jones said at Florida Supercon that he wants Danny Rand to face Shang-Chi in the MCU, and he tied that idea to the character’s future rather than nostalgia. “I’m Danny Rand until I die,” he told fans, then made the matchup explicit by naming Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi.
“We’ve seen Danny a lot in the kind of street-level New York world,” Jones said when asked which hero he would want Danny Rand to share a scene with going forward. “I think it would be kind of cool to see him go a bit more mystical, a bit more powerful, maybe fight Shang-Chi (Simu Liu) a little bit.”

Jones was on stage with Krysten Ritter and Mike Colter at Florida Supercon for the first time at a convention since the original series aired. The timing matters because Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 brought back Jessica and Luke, and Season 3 will add Elektra Natchios and Danny Rand, with Marvel having only committed to a third season so far.
That leaves Jones’s comment sitting inside an active continuity shift. Marvel Television closed its doors and left Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist in limbo, but Daredevil: Born Again is pulling those characters back into the Marvel Cinematic Universe and making the old Netflix era part of the Sacred Timeline again.
1976 and 2018 team-ups
Iron Fist and Shang-Chi first shared a story in Master of Kung Fu Annual #1 in 1976, then teamed up repeatedly over the following decades. They also had a standalone team-up in 2018, which gives Jones’s crossover pitch an established comic-book route instead of a one-off fan-service idea.
The contrast is sharper now than it was in print. Shang-Chi has moved into bigger MCU stakes and has been placed inside Sam Wilson’s Avengers lineup in official concept art ahead of Avengers: Doomsday, while Iron Fist has stayed rooted in the same street-level New York setting.
Marvel’s next move
Iron Fist’s first season opened to abysmal reviews, with criticism aimed at the writing, the action scenes, and Jones’s take on the character. That history makes any crossover more than a simple reunion; Marvel would need to decide whether Danny Rand returns as a purely street-level fighter or gets folded into a more mystical lane alongside Shang-Chi.
For now, Jones has done the public-facing part himself. The open question is whether Marvel Studios ever puts Danny Rand and Shang-Chi in the same scene, or leaves that fight where it is today: a direct wish from the actor who still says, “I’m Danny Rand until I die.”
