Rev. Al Sharpton told mourners at Nolan Wells’ funeral in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, that he would offer a $50,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case. Hundreds gathered Monday at Center Pointe Church as the service became both a farewell and a public appeal for answers.
Nolan Wells Funeral drew Spike Lee and Terrell Owens, along with family, classmates and teammates who came to honor the Mississippi teenager. Tyler Perry paid for the funeral, and Sharpton said at the end of the service that Perry would also offer $50,000 for information.

Christine Wells-Wonsley spoke at the funeral and said, "I want to give all thanks and honor and glory to God for choosing Elmore and me to be Nolan’s parents". She added, "Nolan had such a gentle, calming spirit about him. He had a way of making people feel seen, welcome, and valued," and told her son, "Your absence has left an emptiness that can never truly be filled".
Elmore Wonsley also spoke, saying, "You grew up to be a very young man that everyone enjoyed to be around". Jake Bramlett, the Ocean Springs High School head coach, had earlier called Wells "a great young man to coach, and we’re going to miss him dearly for it".
Ben Crump’s call for justice
Ben Crump used the service to press for action, saying, "Until we get to truth, until we get to justice, we gonna stand up and we gonna keep ringing the justice bells for Nolan Wells". The family and its attorney have kept the demand for justice in public view even as the investigation has produced few public answers.
Wells went missing on July 4 after traveling to Horn Island for the holiday, and his body was found days later on the shores of Horn Island. The reward offer now gives anyone with information a direct path to help move the case toward an arrest and conviction, but the unanswered question remains whether new witness accounts or physical evidence can finally explain how he died.

The funeral brought together mourners from Ocean Springs and beyond, but the most immediate development was Sharpton’s reward announcement. Anyone with information tied to the case now has a financial incentive to come forward, and the family’s public push for answers has been matched by a specific call for evidence that can be used in court.
