Elijahturner011’s search for one seat in 70mm IMAX theaters has run into a wall at AMC Lincoln Square 13, where every listed screening of The Odyssey is sold out through August 12. The shortage has pushed buyers onto Reddit, where desperate posts now sit beside warnings about scams and scalping.
On July 20, Elijahturner011 asked, “Can someone release a ticket to me, please?” The same post said, “I’ve been trying to get a ticket forever. I’ve been scammed left and right.” The user added, “I just want one ticket to 70mm … it’s hurting my heart that I can’t just get one ticket for one day, and I’m hearing some people didn’t even show up to the movie. So please if you’re not sure or planning to not go, drop your ticket to me, please. I’m calling on Zeus himself.”
AMC Lincoln Square 13 sells out
AMC Lincoln Square 13 is one of just 41 Imax 70mm screens worldwide, and it is the only Imax 70mm screen in New York City. At that scale, every empty seat has value, and at Lincoln Square the remaining inventory is already reduced to wheelchair spots. The sold-out run covers all the 2 a.m. showings through Aug. 2 and all other listed showtimes through August 12.
That scarcity is showing up in public. A Reddit community called r/NYCmovies has seen dozens of desperate posts from moviegoers trying to find tickets, and the front page includes a rule that says, “No Scalping of Tickets.”

Tessa, a moderator of r/NYCmovies, said the community acts fast when users report people trying to sell tickets above face value. “People are very quick to report if someone is trying to sell them tickets above face value (scalping),” she said. “Anytime we get a report of someone doing that, we ban their account.”
Tessa also said scalpers often delete their accounts and return with new ones, while some users pretend to have tickets they do not actually possess. Legit users with extra tickets, she said, usually refund them and let the sub know they are dropping the extra tickets.
AMC leaves supply tight
A spokesperson for AMC declined to comment when asked whether more showtimes would be added soon, so the market around The Odyssey remains pinned to a fixed supply at the city’s only Imax 70mm screen. With a $33 ticket already drawing bids and the listed runs gone through August 12, buyers who still want in are left watching the subreddit, checking post history, and demanding proof before money moves.
