Coventry City have agreed to send defender Callum Perry on loan to Cambridge United, giving the 20-year-old a chance to continue his progress in League One.
Perry had been training with Frank Lampard’s senior squad before the move, but the loan now gives him a more direct route to regular first-team football. It is another step in a busy period for the young defender, who signed a new long-term contract with Coventry City last month.
A move that follows a strong loan spell
Last season, Perry played 25 times for Rochdale and helped them win promotion to League Two. He also scored in the penalty shootout in the promotion final at Wembley, underlining how valuable he was in a season that ended with silverware for The Dale.
Cambridge United, known as The U's, moved up to League One after finishing third in League Two last season. That makes this a clear step up for Perry, who now gets the chance to test himself at a higher level after helping Rochdale climb out of the National League.
For Coventry City, the loan fits the wider development path for a young defender who has already shown he can contribute in a promotion chase. For Perry, it is an opportunity to build on last season’s momentum and prove he can handle the demands of League One and Cambridge United.
