Lionsgate has unveiled a new La La Land poster that corrects Ryan Gosling’s hand position, a small visual fix with a long memory behind it. The change arrives for La La Land's 10th anniversary and points straight at the film’s Sunday, August 16 rerelease at Dolby Cinema at AMC Theatres.
In a 2024 interview, Gosling said, “There is a moment that haunts me.” He was talking about the poster image that has followed the film for years, the one he said he keeps seeing and now has to live with.

Gosling said, “We’re dancing, Emma [Stone] and I, and I didn’t know this would become the poster for the movie.” The new version changes the hand pose that made the original image so easy to spot, turning an old complaint into the clearest sign yet that the anniversary campaign is willing to revise even the most familiar artwork.
“We were supposed to have our hands up, and I thought it would be cool to put my hand [more flat] even though everyone told me it wasn’t cool,” he said. “I was sure it was cooler.”

Gosling’s self-critique got its own shorthand when he said, “I call it La La Hand.” He added, “Now when I look at it, and I have to see it all the time, you know what would’ve been cooler…[the intended pose].”
He did not stop there. “It just killed the energy that way,” he said, making the poster less a marketing image than a mistake he has been publicly carrying for years.
August 16 at Dolby Cinema
The rerun of the Oscar-winning film is set for Sunday, August 16, with Dolby Cinema at AMC Theatres carrying the title on that date. That puts the corrected image in the middle of a clear anniversary push, and the new artwork is likely to become the version most viewers see as the rerelease rolls out.
La La Land won six Oscars, including Best Director and Best Cinematography, so even a hand-position tweak carries more weight than a routine poster refresh. For anyone buying a seat on August 16, the fix suggests the anniversary release is being treated as a reset of the film’s public image, not just a return to screens.
The remaining question is simple: how far this corrected poster travels through the 10th anniversary rollout. If it becomes the main image for the rerelease, Gosling’s long-running gripe finally gets a public edit.
