M&S is bringing back four M&S retro 1980s chocolate bars next week, reviving Jet, Now, Sparks and Coconut Grove in Foodhalls. The return gives shoppers a second chance at bars that sat outside the range for nearly 30 years, after the St Michael name was dropped from products in 2000.
The four bars are Jet, a milk chocolate bar with soft nougat, peanut and caramel; Now, a milk chocolate bar with biscuit and caramel; Sparks, a milk chocolate bar with soft nougat and caramel; and Coconut Grove, a milk chocolate bar with a soft coconut centre. M&S said they originally belonged to its 1980s confectionery range.
St Michael and M&S
The relaunch sits within a wider return of St Michael-branded confectionery. M&S reintroduced the St Michael Take 4 bar four months earlier, and the latest release extends that pattern with four separate bars instead of one.
The label itself has a longer history. St Michael made its debut in 1927, and by 1950 virtually all products sold by Marks & Spencer carried the name for the following five decades. Marks & Spencer officially discontinued the St Michael brand name on its products in 2000.
Foodhalls next week
For customers, the practical change is straightforward: the bars will be back in Foodhalls next week, available both as full-sized bars and in mini form within a variety pack. That means shoppers who want the original-style bars and those looking for smaller portions will both have an option when the range returns.
M&S also opened its largest ever standalone food store in Godalming, Surrey, this week. The timing places the chocolate relaunch inside a broader reset of its food offer, with the revived bars giving the St Michael name a visible return in one of the chain’s own food outlets.
What matters now is not the nostalgia but the shelf space: the bars are back after nearly 30 years away, and the next week is when customers will find out how quickly M&S turns that memory into regular sales.
