Joe Mixon has reportedly told former teammates that his NFL career is over after missing the entire 2025 season because of a foot injury that required surgery.

That update came Tuesday during a livestream from Aaron Wilson, who said there had been some hope Mixon might still return. Wilson added, though, that he thinks it is probably over.

Mixon, a former Cincinnati Bengals and Houston Texans running back, last played in 2024 for the Houston Texans. In March, the Houston Texans released him, and his status since then has remained uncertain.

What the report means

The report suggests the question of whether Joe Mixon will play again may already have been answered privately, even if there had been some outside hope for a comeback. According to Wilson, Mixon has told some friends, including players for the Cincinnati Bengals, that he is not going to play football anymore.

For now, that makes the post-2025 outlook simple: Mixon was sidelined all season, and the latest report points to a career decision rather than a comeback attempt.
