Takeshi Yamanaka Reveals Phoenix Cyclops for Marvel Tokon Open Beta

Takeshi Yamanaka used the Marvel Tokon open beta spotlight at San Diego Comic-Con to reveal Phoenix Cyclops as the first additional character joining MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls in Year 1 content. The producer also laid out a free costume rollout starting September 1st, giving players a concrete post-launch update before the game’s broader content plan fully opens up.

Yamanaka’s Year 1 reveal

“We’re excited to announce that Phoenix Cyclops (voiced by Ray Chase), will be the first additional character joining MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls as part of Year 1 content,” Yamanaka said. That makes Scott Summers the first named post-release addition in a roster that is still being built around Fighting Souls rather than left to settle after launch.

Ray Chase gives the character a specific voice identity, while the reveal ties Cyclops to the Phoenix Five version from Avengers vs. X-Men. The new look draws on the Phoenix Force, so the announcement is doing more than adding a costume swap; it signals how MARVEL wants the character to land as part of the game’s expansion strategy.

SANZIGEN, Episode Mode, and the opener

SANZIGEN handled the opening movie and the cinematic sequences throughout Episode Mode, and Daisuke Suzuki directed the opening animation. Yamanaka said, “We hope you’ll enjoy the world created through its animation and rock-inspired theme song.”

The theme song uses vocals from Keiko Terada of SHOW-YA and mayu of NEMOPHILA, with lyrics by Kanata Okajima and composition and arrangement by MEG. That combination gives the game a curated presentation rather than a generic trailer package, which fits the way the reveal was staged around a public panel and a new opening movie.

September 1st and the free suit

Starting September 1st, the Wolverine Battle Reborn Suit will be available for all players at no additional cost. That puts a tangible download in players’ hands even before the wider Year 1 rollout is fully detailed, and it gives the announcement a practical hook beyond the character reveal.

Yamanaka also said, “We’ll have more to share about how these abilities are incorporated into his gameplay, so please stay tuned for future updates on his fighting style.” That leaves the strongest immediate question sitting right where the reveal ended: Phoenix Cyclops is in, but how he plays is still being held back for a later update.
