Samantha Chaney said her Samantha Chaney WBZ-TV departure came on Friday, July 17, ending nearly two years at the station. In a Facebook post, she said she was grateful for the people she met during her time there.
Chaney wrote, "All I can say is: thank you, thank you, thank you!" She added, "To the work friends who became family, the journalists who taught me so much, and most importantly, the people who opened their homes and hearts to me, trusting me with their stories. Each of you have made the past two years so special and I am forever grateful."

Chaney joined WBZ-TV in September 2024 after working at News12 Bronx as a general assignment reporter. While there, she was nominated for a New York Emmy Award. Her earlier work also included off-air roles for the CBS Political Unit, CBS This Morning, and the CBS Evening News with Norah O'Donnell.
Her reporting run at WBZ-TV included the rescue of two teens from the top of Mt. Washington, a fatal shooting at a New Hampshire country club, the fall 2025 federal government shutdown, and last summer's Fenway Park concessions worker strike. Those assignments placed her on stories spanning crime, labor, weather, and government.

Chaney said her career had been a dream since she was "just a little girl jumping into my dad's news van after school and tagging along with him on stories," and she said she was "excited for where the journey takes me next." Her father, Dave Chaney, was a photojournalist at WCCO-TV in Minneapolis for 46 years before retiring in 2024. Chaney earned a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism and political science from Howard University, along with a master's degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
WBZ-TV did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Chaney did not name her next job or say whether she is staying in television, so the immediate question for readers is where that reporting path leads now.
