Swansea City have completed the signing of Ghana winger Joseph Opoku from Zulte Waregem, with the 20-year-old agreeing a four-year deal that also includes an additional 12 months.

The move gives the Championship Swans another young attacking option as they continue their summer rebuild. Opoku arrives with senior experience in Belgium and is already on the club's pre-season tour in Austria, where he has taken part in his first training session.

What Swansea City are getting

Opoku joins after helping Zulte Waregem win promotion to the Belgian Pro League, underlining that he has already been involved in a competitive senior environment. Swansea City head coach Vitor Matos called him a young player with a lot of senior football behind him in Belgium, and said that should help him adapt to the physicality, intensity and schedule of the Championship.

Matos also described Opoku as fast and sharp, which suggests the club see him as a player who can bring pace and directness in the final third. For a Swansea side looking to add more attacking depth, that profile makes sense.

Recent form and international step

Last season, Opoku finished with 10 goals and six assists, a return that helps explain why Swansea City moved for him. He also made his senior Ghana debut in May in a friendly against Mexico, after being called up for a set of friendlies and named in the preliminary squad for the World Cup.

That combination of club production and international recognition gives Swansea City reason for optimism. He is still early in his career, but he has already shown he can contribute at senior level and handle a step up.

Another summer addition for the Swans

Ben Stevens said he was really excited to see Joseph Opoku join Swansea City and hopes his attacking potential can flourish in Vitor Matos' team. Stevens also pointed to the winger's two full seasons with Zulte Waregem in Belgium and his involvement with Ghana national teams as signs of a player with real ability.

For Swansea City, Opoku is the fifth signing of the summer, adding another piece to the squad ahead of the new season. He has already linked up with the group in Austria, so the club can begin working on how he fits into their plans right away.
