Emergency services were called to Future Automation on Brunel Road in Bedford at about 15:20 BST on Thursday after reports of an explosion near me. A man in his 30s died at the scene, and Bedfordshire Police began a joint investigation with the Health and Safety Executive.
Police officers and nine fire crews attended the industrial estate, where a second man was taken to hospital as a precaution and several other people were assessed by paramedics. The incident involved a high pressure release of oxygen from a set containing 12 cylinders.

Firefighters used gas monitors to check gas readings and a thermal imaging camera to check for hot spots before casualties were left with the ambulance service and the incident was handed over to police.
