Verizon Secures $1 Billion Google Dark Fiber Deal — Verizon Google Billion-dollar Deal

Verizon said on July 24 that it secured a Verizon Google billion-dollar deal worth more than $1 billion for dark fiber connectivity. The work is aimed at Google's data centers, putting a large new network contract behind one of the company's highest-value customers.

Dan Schulman said Verizon expects to announce other deals by year end. He added that those deals, taken together, are expected to be worth multiple billions of dollars in revenue over the next several years.

Google data centers

Dark fiber usually means unused fiber capacity that a buyer can light and manage for its own network needs. In plain terms, Google is paying for physical connectivity it can control rather than a fully managed service, which gives the customer more direct control over routing and scale.

For Verizon, that makes the Google contract more than a one-off win. It signals that the company is trying to turn infrastructure capacity into longer-running enterprise revenue, with the data-center buildout itself as the demand driver.

Schulman on Verizon

Schulman made the announcement on Verizon's post-earnings call. His phrasing left a gap between what is already secured and what is only expected: the Google deal is already worth more than $1 billion, while the larger revenue story still depends on other agreements that have not yet been announced.

"We have other deals that we expect to announce by year end that taken together are expected to be worth multiple billions of dollars in revenue over the next several years" — Dan Schulman.

What buyers still do not know

The missing detail is the deal structure itself. Verizon has not laid out the timing, duration, or ramp for the Google contract, so customers and investors cannot yet tell how quickly the revenue will land or how long the fiber build-out will run.

That leaves one practical question at the center of the story: how much of the expected revenue will arrive from the Google agreement now, and how much will depend on the other deals Verizon says it plans to announce by year end.
