The first ODI offered a clear picture of why Pakistan took control. Nashra Sandhu led the bowling effort with three for 42, while Gull Feroza and Sidra Amin delivered the runs that mattered most. Feroza made 78 and Amin added 57 as Pakistan chased down the target and moved 1-0 ahead in the series.
Sri Lanka need a stronger middle and lower order
For Sri Lanka Women, the concern is not that the top order failed completely. It started well enough. The issue was what happened after that, when the lower order contributed very little and the innings lost momentum. Against a side that has already proved it can finish the chase, that is a problem that cannot be ignored.
Chamari Athapaththu will again carry a huge responsibility at the top of the order. Sri Lanka need a big score from their captain and more support around her if they are to pull the series level. The batting unit must look more connected from top to bottom, rather than leaving too much to a few isolated contributions.
Pakistan have the edge, but the job is not done
Pakistan’s position is strong, but this is not yet a completed job. A 1-0 lead gives them control, yet the second ODI still matters because it can settle the series early. That should add some edge to both teams, especially with Sri Lanka needing to show they can handle the pressure of a must-respond game.
The numbers from the opener suggest Pakistan have already found the better balance. They had wicket-taking support through Nashra Sandhu and match-winning batting through Feroza and Amin, while Sri Lanka were left to reflect on a batting effort that faded after a promising start. On Saturday, the question is whether Sri Lanka can lift that level enough to keep the series alive, or whether Pakistan will turn a good opening result into a winning series position.
