Liverpool are back in the USA for a two-week pre-season tour, with three friendly matches scheduled in Nashville, New York and Chicago. The trip gives the squad a chance to build toward the new campaign while also taking the club directly to supporters across three different cities.
On Monday, Liverpool's men's squad set up base in Chicago for the tour, before heading to Nashville for the first game of the trip. Billy Hogan said the club is pleased to return to the USA two years after its last visit and stressed that bringing the team to supporters is a key part of why Liverpool travel abroad during pre-season.
Hogan: touring is part of Liverpool's responsibility
Speaking in Nashville, Hogan said the club is excited to be back in the US. He also framed the tour as more than just a commercial exercise, saying it is part of Liverpool's responsibility as one of the biggest clubs in the world to bring the team out to supporters.
That message fits the schedule. Liverpool will play Sunderland in Nashville on Saturday, Wrexham in New York on Wednesday night and Leeds in Chicago on August 2. The structure gives the club a short but focused block of football before the season gets underway.
Hogan also pointed to the football side of the trip. He said this is the pre-season and that the main aim is to put the foundations in place for the long season ahead. That is the practical value of a tour like this: it keeps the squad moving, creates competitive minutes and helps the coaching staff keep building fitness and rhythm.
What the USA tour means for Liverpool
For supporters in Nashville, New York and Chicago, the tour is a direct chance to see Liverpool in person without traveling to Anfield. For the club, it is a useful reminder of how global its following has become, and why pre-season trips can serve both football and fan engagement at the same time.
Liverpool will also mark a separate club moment on August 9, when Kevin Keegan is recognised before the Monaco match at Anfield. But for now, the focus is on the USA tour and the three games that should help shape the opening weeks of the new campaign.
