Sara Gilson was found dead in her home in Owasso on July 23 after gunshot wounds to the head. Jeremiah “Shawn” Duffey was found dead there too, and police said he shot Gilson before turning the weapon on himself.
Gilson was 43. Duffey was 48. Weeks before the deaths, she posted a TikTok video that said, “Preparing for when Netflix drops a documentary about my soon to be ex husband who I just found out is a pedophile.”

Gilson’s TikTok caption added, “I wish I was joking. #plottwist #netflix #documentary.” That post placed the relationship dispute in public view before the shooting and tied the case to the Netflix documentary trend on TikTok.
Her court filings came earlier. Gilson filed two protective orders against Duffey in 2021, and those charges were dismissed after she did not appear at the hearing.

On June 10, Gilson submitted an emergency protective order against Duffey. Another woman filed an additional protective order that same day on behalf of her 15-year-old daughter, who played on a youth basketball team that Duffey coached.
In Gilson’s filing, she said Duffey had a gun, had threatened to end his life, and went on the run. The court ordered Duffey from their home and told him to stay 100 yards away from Gilson.
On June 23, the protective order against Duffey was extended to August 24. That left a little more than a month between the extension and the deaths on July 23.

The June filings also included allegations from the 15-year-old girl and her mother. The mother said Duffey allegedly kissed and touched the girl and was caught by another coach, while the child said Duffey sent her messages, invited her to his hotel room during a tournament trip, and offered her money to keep her quiet.
Those allegations, the dismissed 2021 filings, and the July 23 deaths now sit on the same timeline. Gilson’s final public accusation and her emergency request for protection gave the case its most recent legal record before the shooting.
