Elizabeth Waddell missing in Grenada after she was last seen around 8 a.m. Wednesday, July 22, near Grand Anse Beach in St. George’s. The 44-year-old Cary mother had been vacationing with a friend and staying at an Airbnb.
Her friend later saw Waddell’s towel down on the pier and told family she thought Waddell may have gone for a swim. The Royal Grenada Police Force has asked anyone with tips to contact police, while fishermen, boat operators, and residents along the southern coastline have been drawn into the search.
Airbnb stay in Grenada
Amanda Romano-Harmon said Waddell was on holiday with another friend and that the trip had been part sightseeing, part downtime. “The two of them went down there, and they just been vacationing and sightseeing and taking in all that Grenada has to offer,” she said in a WRAL News interview on Sunday.
Romano-Harmon also said Waddell left the Airbnb wearing her swimsuit. “She had her swimsuit on, and she went outside their Airbnb,” she said. Waddell and her friend had been staying at a place with a pool overlooking the bay, and the friend was taking an online course when she noticed Waddell was no longer outside.
Grand Anse Beach search
When the friend went to look for her, she saw the towel on the pier. Romano-Harmon said, “So the only thing we can think is maybe she went for a swim.” That sequence has become the core of the search: a known last sighting, a short gap, then no direct account of what happened after Waddell left the Airbnb.
Cailen Waddell has been in Grenada with his daughter since Friday to help search for his wife. “My wife is a loving, free-spirited person,” he said in a Grenada News Network interview on his way to Grenada. He added, “She could make friends with anyone. She often did... and was always willing to help someone.”
Royal Grenada Police Force appeal
Waddell is the founder of Art of Movement Physical Therapy and has a doctorate in physical therapy from UNC-Chapel Hill. For family and friends, that makes the search personal and immediate: they are not waiting for a later update, they are pushing the case through every local contact they can reach now.
The next step is the continuing police search and the flow of tips to the Royal Grenada Police Force. The open question remains what happened to Waddell after she left the Airbnb for a swim near Grand Anse Beach.
